Hamachi, free VPN client

Probably one of the neatest tools I use. Easy to install, easy to setup and easy to use.

Hamachi is freely distributed by LogMeIn.

Essentially it's a tool that you install on your PC's, Linux or Windows, and connect to Hamachi's backend service w/ unique IP's. Create a network group thru the Hamachi app then install the app on other PC's and connect them all to the group, creating a VPN of sorts. I use it for Remote Desktop to work on machines remotely such as family and friends. It is lightweight and FREE!
