My supporting of support thru PHP

By wes - Posted on 30 July 2008

My last post was my first attempts at working on a web front end for a Postfix Server. It will/should allow specific users access to the page and add a device to the approved senders list. Another way to describe it would be to say users can "whitelist" devices so they can send email throughout the organization and else where.

Well, this project like many others I start has spawned several ideas that I've had the pleasure of exploring. This is my first attempt at a PHP page/program and it's very interesting. What makes this project so interesting is that I've never done it before so I dont have any limitation as to where I can go, or at least think I can. As I'm working on 'grep'ing a log file and posting that data in the web browser, I think well, why cant I make this grep thru the browser just like it would in the shell. So I chase that rabbit down. Then another idea occurs, what if the end user wanted to check if an IP already existed? So, I chase that rabbit down. Then it occurs to me, it would be good if the user could also just enter an IP and move thru the system, but what if the IP address was no good; say it was fat fingered? So I use a preg_grep function to validate the IP address, and I check to see if the IP is already in the "whitelist".

I've made some good progress and at present my theory is in "alpha" on one of our DEV servers at the office. Once I get a release I'll post it zipped back here.
